Chairperson – Julie Koenen

This committee discerns the needs of persons in the parish and wider community, especially the poor, and identifies resources to meet those needs enlisting the active cooperation of parish members.  This committee fulfills the justice dimensions of scripture and our church tradition acknowledging that every Christian is called to service and to work for justice, including Respect Life efforts.

The committee’s scope of responsibility is two-fold:

  1. to meet immediate needs and
  2. to work for changes in the structures of society which are

Committee members are not responsible to actually DO all of the committee’s work, but rather to INVOLVE OTHERS in actively accepting the responsibility of their baptism.  The committee supports those in the parish who are already involved in service, advocacy, justice education, and empowerment of people.  This community works with community groups and other parishes to help solve related problems.  They keep parishioners aware of issues
relating to justice, peace, hunger and the homeless on local, national and international levels so that appropriate Christian action on such issues can be determined.

Funeral Luncheons – St. Joseph’s offers preparation of a meal for the family of a deceased member.  The committee coordinates with the family on menu selection and number to be served.  Meals are prepared the day of the funeral.  All interested parishioners are encouraged to participate and help with these meals.

Love Inc. Meals – St. Joseph’s has two groups that alternate meal preparation on the first Wednesday of each month at Love, Inc in Burlington from 4:30 – 6:00 pm.  Members of each subcommittee(four or more) plan, prepare and serve their meal to the needy at Love, Inc’s dining facility.  Love, Inc. has ovens available if preparation at their facility is helpful in providing any course of the meal.   Early arrivals are welcomed for this purpose.

Prayer Chain– The purpose of the Prayer Chain is to involve parish members in praying regularly for the intentions of fellow parishioners and others.  Praying for others can be a simple, but meaningful way to enrich the spiritual life of our faith community.  Participants are updated when new intentions are added, but their prayers are continuously being offered on behalf of all parishioners.
